Charlotte, North Carolina – March 3, 2025 – The Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research is proud to announce its partnership with Family Reach, a national nonprofit providing financial support to families facing cancer. This partnership represents a significant step toward increasing access to financial resources for sarcoma patients across North Carolina.
Over 800,000 people with cancer are unable to afford food, housing, utilities, and transportation each year, impacting their ability to access and adhere to cancer care. Family Reach works tirelessly to bridge this gap, providing financial resources to patients and caregivers in need. By joining forces with Family Reach, the Paula Takacs Foundation expands its mission to advancing health equity so that all sarcoma patients can benefit from treatment advances.
“Collaboration is the only way to truly address health equity in cancer. We are thrilled to partner with the Paula Takacs Foundation to connect sarcoma patients in their community to life-saving financial support,” said Carla Tardif, CEO of Family Reach. “Together, we can ensure that no patient or caregiver has to choose between paying for treatment and keeping the lights on.”
Through this collaboration, the Paula Takacs Foundation and Family Reach will work to:
“A sarcoma diagnosis disrupts far more than health; it upends every aspect of life,” said Christine Wade, Executive Director of the Paula Takacs Foundation. “By partnering with Family Reach, we remain true to our mission of funding critical research and raising awareness while extending direct financial relief to families in need. This program helps alleviate financial barriers for North Carolina sarcoma patients, allowing them to focus on what matters most: healing, hope, and time with their loved ones.”
This partnership underscores a shared commitment to changing the landscape of cancer care, ensuring that patients and their loved ones receive the support they need on every level. Together, the Paula Takacs Foundation and Family Reach will offer hope to countless families impacted by a sarcoma diagnosis.
The Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research has been a champion for sarcoma research and awareness since its founding in 2010 by Paula Takacs during her courageous battle with the disease. Sarcoma is a rare cancer, accounting for only 1% of adult cancers and 15% of childhood cancers, yet it receives significantly less research funding than more common cancers, slowing progress in treatment and survival.
Determined to change this reality, the foundation has raised millions to support innovative sarcoma research at Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children’s Hospital. These funds help drive advancements in treatment and diagnostics, opening pathways to better outcomes. Beyond research, the foundation amplifies awareness to accelerate progress in the fight against sarcoma.
Together, we’re striving for a future where improved treatments and earlier diagnoses give every sarcoma patient a greater chance at hope and healing.
Family Reach is the only national nonprofit focused solely on helping people with cancer access food, housing, utilities, and transportation. Treatment requires more than medicine — families need a roof over their heads and food on their tables to survive. We work with patients, care teams, and community-based organizations to provide immediate and ongoing financial support for these basic needs. Together, we’re challenging the systems that force people to choose between their health and their homes.
